Becoming eternal for a few days

I was first astounded when it came back to my mind that I had not visited Rome since ... 18 years ...

I also recalled that six of the previous visits had taken place in October. History is repeating,

Romans have this delicate and detailed way to preserve their Eternal City, its symbols, its charms, its traditions.

Rome stands out from all other European cities, as a Mother of our roots, shared culture and history.

These Swiss Guards at the Vatican entrance maybe represent this force that preserves Rome best.

Dorchester Collection Hotels had just finished renovating the Eden a few weeks before our visit. Adjacent to the Villa Medici and the Gardens of the Villa Borghese, the view on Rome from this hotel is magnificent. The small size of the property and the interior decor make you fell at Home-away-from-Home. The service is impeccable. The breakfast with a view is to die for. This cocoon has become the talk of the town. When you reach this haven, you will understand fully why.

Rome was maybe not so attractive compared to Milan when it came to shopping. Rinascente is changing the game in the most exquisite way, with the opening of this new flagship on Via del Tritone.

The basement houses a 60-m section of the Aqua Virgo, one of ancient Rome's aqueducts dating to 19 BC, which was discovered during the building's 11 years of construction and restoration works. As well as a palazzo from 19th Century. Beyond your favorite luxury brands, the most amazing selection of Italian fashion is delicately shown-cased around a full-height-atrium.

While reaching the top floor, you are invited to have breakfast, lunch or dinner. You may seat inside among the open kitchens and the flow of curious visitors, or outside on the terrace overlooking the roofs of Rome, and offering one of the best views on the Borghese hill.

How to find the perfect light?

There is no trip to Rome without a prayer at the Pantheon very early in the morning, when silence still prevails and the Sun has just made its way in. And later finding our way to Centrale Montemartini, displaying antique statues among contemporary machinery of a closed power plant.

I know. This is such a cliche picture. Of course, it is beautiful, romantic, charming... But it is also my first memory in Rome. I was 13 years old then. I was residing up there, at the Catholic school of Trinita dei Monti. There was a curfew every night: we had to be back to our rooms at 9pm latest. Of course, we were busier discovering Rome than minding the clock guidelines. We had to sneak-in from one of the back walls, climbing through the trees, then jumping in the dark hoping not to hit anything.

Mega WOW for this place which a dear friend of mine recommended for this trip. It is named Pizzeria Giacomelli, located in a residential area, away from any touristic area. Try to find your way there...

Though this picture was taken on the night we arrived in Rome, this will be our way to close this page. Secrets are beyond these walls.
